    Totally Working for Me

Getting Her Shoes on the Right Feet
I ran across this brilliant idea for helping kids put their shoes on the right feet because as any parent of a toddler will tell you they get it wrong more than 50% of the time but insist on doing it themselves.  Mara loves to tell us her shoe smilies are kissing and her Crocs are almost always on the right feet now.  I just wish I could figure out a way to do it on her other favorite pair of shoes (that have a dark sole with a horizontal seam right through the middle).

    Dinner while Daddy is Traveling
Make your own pizza night is fun and delicious. Mara willingly tries new vegetables and it's a meal I totally don't mind her help in the kitchen.  I am still perfecting my technique as tonight they became calzones because I forgot to flour my makeshift pizza slip.  We get refrigerated pizza dough, a can of tomato sauce, and a chunk of mozzarella from the store.  To the sauce I add some basil and oregano from the garden.  If it is just the 2 of us I freeze half of everything now.  Preheat the oven, rest the dough, shred the cheese (I add some parmesan which is usually present in my fridge) too and prepare some vegetables (we have done spinach, mushrooms, red pepper, tomatos and basil).  Shape the dough (Mara always request that I throw it in the air), layer and bake.

    The Broccoli Song

    On top of ol' broccoli
    all covered with sauce,
    I lost my poor chicken
    when somebody sneezed.

    It rolled off the table
    and onto the floor.
    And then my poor chicken
    rolled out the door.

    It rolled off the sidewalk
    and under a bush.
And then my my poor chicken
    turned into mush.

Recording this here for memories sake. She now eats vegetables willingly, but she still requested the song tonight. She didn't like when I tried to change the sneezed part and kept telling me the end was wrong because it didn't include "somebody sneezed". I'm not sure how you can get a made up song wrong. Oh well it was fun and cute.

    Over the hill

While Doe and Buck were here, we headed over the Santa Cruz mountains to the beach in Capitola. The leftover pizza from the baptism party and some fruit made a great picnic and being Monday, we avoided the weekend crowds (and traffic). Doe and Buck were enjoying the relatively cool weather in San Jose(compared to Oklahoma), but were shocked at the change in temperature when we opened the doors at the beach. As you can see Mara had a love hate relationship with the sand (I can relate).

I could make an entire post of attempts at getting a family photo from the weekend, but I'll spare you the details and just say a 2 year old does not like to be held and cooperate upon request.

    Chasing waves

Yes dear, that is cold water in the Pacific Ocean.

    I love these expressions.

    Washing hands

Disaster was written all over this attempt at clean pails, but she came out it remarkably dry.

    Beach bums

After avoiding the sand all day (and washing off excessively) she couldn't get enough of the dry, warm sand all over her before we left.

    Audra's Baptism

(Mara was in a less than cooperative family picture mood, but she did look cute all dressed up.)
